How to set up a baby nursery
How you choose to decorate your nursery is entirely a personal
decision. But when it comes to setting up a safe and efficient nursery,
you may want to follow some basic guidelines.
Keep the crib away from drafts and windows and never place it near
anything that the baby can eventually pull on top of him/her such as
decorations or lamps. Also, don’t ever put a space heater near the crib.
The changing table should be placed near the crib with all necessary
supplies located on the shelves for easy access. That way, you
don’t have to go across the room to get anything in the middle of
changing the baby.
If you can place a dresser or shelf next to the changing table, this is
the best layout. That way you keep essentials close by. If you don’t
have a shelf or a dresser, try buying containers that will hang on the
side of the changing table so you can put these items away.
A laundry hamper or waste basket is also nice to have near the changing
table. That way you can just throw away the soiled clothes or messy
diapers as soon as your done changing the baby. A diaper pail with a
scoop of baking soda is a must.
A diaper stacker is a good investment to have but not necessary.
However, it is a great way to save space especially if you don’t have
much to begin with. It can hang off the changing table, so the diapers
are within reach.
The key to setting up a baby nursery is to put whatever items you use
most frequently within reach. That way it’s easier for you to get
around. When the child gets older, the layout can be changed but in the
meantime create what works best for you.
