Nurseries with a theme
From Noah’s Ark to Teddy Bears, Winnie the Pooh to Mickey
Mouse - there are myriads of enchanting baby themes to choose from for
your baby nursery. Just scouring the Internet or department store baby
isles can stir up enthusiasm and generate decorating ideas. There are
so many choices available - nursery linen, furnishings and wall decor
of all kinds. These coordinated bedding sets and matching accessories
ensure everything in the nursery is harmonious, making
theme-decorating a popular alternative for many parents.
When decorating with themes, it’s a good idea to think long-term.
How practical will the theme you’ve chosen be as your child grows? To
solve this dilemma, some parents opt to use color palettes as a theme
rather than specific characters. Primary colors can work together, with
wall hangings, curtains and comforters to match. Or try a topic - one
that will grow with your child. For example, a nursery jungle theme can
last up until the child is 9 or 10-years-old.
Likewise, choosing a less babyish theme will help make your decor span
over a longer period of time. Ideas for this genre include, an alphabet
theme, underwater sea world or animals that are gender neutral. For
more gender specific try using super heroes, a forest, or a
western motif for boys. Girls, on the other hand generally
enjoy gardens, flowers or tea parties far past their toddler years.
Be careful or you might find yourself getting sick of your chosen theme
long before your baby does - especially if you’ve gone too
extravagant. Whatever theme you choose - don’t overdo it. Also,
after you’ve chosen what you’re going to dress the room up with, you’ll
often find yourself flooded with donated items from well-intentioned
loved ones. It’s okay if you don’t use everything they give you for
your newly decorated nursery.
